Meet the Newest MWO Team Member - Austin

If you have been in the shop recently, you have seen a new face around. We are excited to introduce you to Austin, the newest member of the MWO Team.

How long have you been fishing, and how did you get started?

At the age of 6, I moved from Texas to Idaho and started fishing shortly thereafter. My fishing was focused primarily on trout throughout the state as well as smallmouth, steelhead, salmon and sturgeon fishing in Hell’s Canyon on the Snake River.

If you had the day off, where would you head to fish?

That’s a tricky one. If it’s fall, I’m going to head north to fish for steelhead or trout. If it’s summer, I’m going smallmouth fishing on any of the local creeks and rivers.

What is your perfect fishing day?

My perfect day of fishing would be floating down the Au Sable River in a drift boat or raft looking for either rising fish to cast a dry fly to or streamer fishing in the rain hunting a big brown.

Favorite fishing outfit?

I love my 11’ 7 Echo Swing for steelhead fishing, but I can’t go without my IMX Pro 7 or 8 wt paired with a Ross Evolution R Reel for all my streamer fishing, so I would call it a tie.

Favorite fishing destination?

There’s a lot of places I haven’t traveled to or fished but the one that has my heart at the moment would have to be Michigan.

Wading, kayak, or boat?

Drift boat or raft.

Favorite activity when you’re not fishing?

Fishing is definitely my passion but when I’m not fishing, I really enjoy fly tying, hunting, and spending time with my family.

Favorite ice cream?

Preferably Cold!

Favorite book?

Rivers of Sand by Josh Greenburg

Anything interesting you think people would like to know about you?

I shot competitive archery for a number of years and thought it would be my career. Though after I returned home from college, I really started to enjoy fly fishing again.
